Of South Korean heritage, Christel Lee was born in Bloomington, USA, and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. She initially studied at the Julliard School in New York. In 2011, she moved to Europe, where she studied at the Kronberg Academy and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with Ana Chumachenco. Since then, she has been based in Munich. Christel has won several prizes, among them First prize at the Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki in 2015 and with First prize not awarded Second Prize and Audience Prize at the 2013 ARD International Competition in Munich in 2013.
As a soloist, Christel Lee has appeared with orchestras such as the Finnish Radio Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Korean Symphony, KBS Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic and the SWR-Stuttgart Radio Symphony. A multi-faceted artist, Lee is a passionate chamber musician, collaborating with leading artists of her generation. She is a welcome guest at numerous festivals in Europe, the USA and Korea - for example at the Aspen Music Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Kronberg Academy Festivals or the Mozartfest Würzburg.
